Healing Modalities: Descriptions:
Bowen Therapy, according to the www.naturaltherapypages.com.au is a “cross fibre muscle release technique that balances and stimulates energy flows, resulting in a deep sense of overall relaxation. There are regular pauses between the series of gentle moves to give the body the required time to allow the body to reset and heal itself. There are various schools of protocols originating from the teachings of Mr Tom Bowen, the founder of the Bowen Technique. The healing is not considered massage but rather a non invasive muscle release technique consisting of a series of gentle cross fibre moves that have long term benefits so long as the injury or pain is not reaggravated. Bowen Technique strives to find the origin of a problem and is therefore very effective for muscular-skeletal problems, including ankle, knee, lower back and neck pain”.
Deep Tissue Massage, according to the Natural Therapy Pages.com.au, focuses “on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It is designed to reach the deep sections of thick muscles, specifically the individual muscle fibres”.
Counselling Modalities used include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Gestalt Therapy and Voice Dialogue: CBT is based on the idea that the way we appraise situations is based on our past experiences. This focus is thought to influence how we think and feel. When we feel threatened, we selectively focus on what we fear and are limited in evaluating situations rationally. CBT modifies thinking and it therefore thought to influence perception and behaviour. The Gestalt approach embraces a person's whole life experience - physical, psychological, mental, emotional and the spiritual. With Voice Dialogue, giving a voice to all aspects of one’s being may assist one to clear negative patterns and stuck emotions. It can also facilitate insight, clarity and a sense of freedom. So instead of living life completely unaware of the selves or energy patterns which constitute ourselves, by focusing awareness on the various aspects of ourselves we can enter a dialogue with them and begin to understand the way we work.
Pranic Healing, according to the NSW Pranic Healing Centre is the “use of the universal life energy, also known as prana, to create health and well-being. Pranic healing works by correcting energy imbalances and blockages, removing used-up or diseased energy and replacing it with fresh prana. Pranic healing is not only helpful in clearing physical conditions, but it is also very helpful in treating psychological and psycho-spiritual disorders.”
Reiki, according to www.reiki.org is a “Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive”.
Remedial Massage, according to the Natural Therapy Pages explains works to “heat muscles and tendons that are damaged, impaired or knotted. It holistically treats the whole body and traces the discomfort back to the original cause. It uses specialized techniques to support and speed up the body's own repair mechanisms. The massage is applied directly to the skin usually with an oil lubricant. Passive stretching moves are also employed”.
Shiatsu, according to the Natural Therapy Pages is a traditional hands-on Japanese ‘healing therapy’ is “quite an intense form of massage whereby the therapist uses thumbs, elbows, forearms, feet and knees to apply pressure on the body. This is combined with stretches, joint rotations and joint manipulation to give an all-over treatment.”
Swedish Massage is massage utilizing “long strokes, kneading, friction, tapping, percussion, vibration and shaking motions that apply pressure between muscles and bones, rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart.”
